Cate Blanchett attended the 2024 (AACTA) Australian Academy of Film and Television Arts Awards in Gold Coast, Queensland. She is nominated in three categories: Best Lead Actress in Film, International Award for Best Lead Actress, and Best Film (producer). She presented AACTA Trailblazer Award, while dressed as “middle-aged Barbie”, to Margot Robbie.
THE NEW BOY won four awards: Best Lead Actor for Aswan Reid, Best Supporting Actress for Deborah Mailman, Best Cinematography for Warwick Thornton, Best Production Design for Amy Baker. SHAYDA won Best Casting for Anousha Zarkesh.
On Friday, Cate attended the Meet the Creators panel to discuss THE NEW BOY as part of the inaugural AACTA Festival.
“What has been asked of Aswan would be almost impossible for any mature actor. For an 11-year-old to be completely displaced from country into a completely new environment, into a métier that he’s never been in before, with a whole lot of adults and rules and regulations and responsibilities – to have watched him grow and evolve… I’m just so in awe of him.” – Cate Blanchett
