Additional cast and play dates for The Seagull announced

Additional cast for Barbican’s production of THE SEAGULL has been announced ahead of the play’s tickets sale. Emma Corrin who is in PEACHES, an upcoming film by Jenny Suen and executive produced by Cate Blanchett, and Kodi Smit-McPhee who plays Cate’s son in the upcoming TV series, DISCLAIMER*, are among the principal characters.

The play preview begins 26 February 2025 and will run until 5 April 2025. You can sign up here for priority tickets. According to Barbican’s website, “the number of tickets available with any priority booking period is capped for each performance, to enable fair access to tickets for everyone – including the general public.”

Cate Blanchett stars as Arkadina, a celebrated actress whose larger-than-life presence dominates both the stage and her personal relationships. Arriving at her family’s country estate for the weekend, she finds herself caught up in a storm of conflicting desires. Her playwright son, Konstantin (Kodi Smit-McPhee), struggles to step out of her shadow as he pursues his own artistic ambitions and her lover Trigorin (Tom Burke), becomes the object of affection for the aspiring young actress Nina (Emma Corrin).

As their lives entwine and they each grapple with their desires, ambitions, and disappointments, Chekhov’s timeless story unfolds in a gripping tale of vanity, power, and the sacrifices made in the name of art.

Further casting and details have been announced for the Cate Blanchett- and Tom Burke-led revival of The Seagull, adapted by Duncan Macmillan and Thomas Ostermeier.

Blanchett will star as Arkadina in a new version of Anton Chekhov’s seminal play, joined by Burke (Mad Max: Furiosa), with the pair recently working together on Steven Soderbergh’s upcoming 2025 film Black Bag.

Also in the cast will be The Crown and Deadpool and Wolverine star Emma Corrin (Orlando) as Nina, as well as Kodi Smit-McPhee (Elvis, The Power of the Dog) as Konstantin, Priyanga Burford (An Enemy of the People) as Polina, Zachary Hart (An Enemy of the People) as Medvedenko, Paul Higgins (Romeo and Juliet) as Shamrayev, Tanya Reynolds (A Mirror) as Masha, and Jason Watkins (Frozen) as Sorin. Further casting and creative team will be announced shortly.

The production opens at the Barbican on 6 March, with previews from 26 February, and runs until 5 April. Also on the creative team are Magda Willi (set design), Marg Horwell (costume design), Tom Gibbons (sound design), and Jim Carnahan and Liz Fraser (casting).
