Top London cop, PC Nicholas Angel is good. Too good. And to stop the rest of his team looking bad, he is reassigned to the quiet town of Sandford. He is paired with Danny Butterman, who endlessly questions him on the action lifestyle. Everything seems quiet for Angel, until two actors are found decapitated. It is called an accident, but Angel isn’t going to accept that, especially when more and more people turn up dead. Angel and Danny clash with everyone, whilst trying to uncover the truth behind the mystery of the apparent “accidents.”

• Joking about her cameo role in the film
“For Hot Fuzz, it was months and months of detailed preparation. I sat down with the creative team and had a huge input into the production design, and then I wore that white suit and mask for at least three or four weeks, for 24 hours a day to get the feel of what it is like to be a forensic scientist. It was exhausting! I got my eyelashes tinted as well!”
• Edgar Wright: “The joke is you don’t see her, and it is a very emotive scene. It’s the idea of doing a sentimental, mawkish scene and not seeing the face of an actress. Later, the idea was, ‘Why don’t we get somebody really heavyweight to play that part? And it will annoy the studio.'”
• Edgar Wright: “She is uncredited, and she gave her fee to charity, so she’s a saint. St. Blanchett.”
• Edgar Wright: “I’d met her in LA and knew that she was a fan of Shaun of the Dead, so that was kind of a start. The first thing we wrote in Hot Fuzz is the kind of the girlfriend scene with the CSI sort of. The first joke was basically that you have an emotive scene with him saying farewell to his girlfriend and being very sentimental and you can’t see her face. And so also the idea of classically taking your glasses off but you still can’t see her face. Then we started to think of who could be that person. I thought, ‘Why don’t we get a really heavyweight actress and then in a weird way it’s funny?’ There is something a bit subversive about it.”
• Edgar Wright: “In a weird way this whole Cate Blanchett thing was sort of a slight kind of joke on that. ‘Let’s get an Oscar winner in there but not see her face.’ And she was totally up for that joke. She loved it. And for the record – and this is why Cate Blanchett goes to heaven – she gave her fee to charity. She is one nice lady.”
• Jeanine: “Hello!”
Nicholas Angel: “Hello, it’s me.”
Jeanine: “I know! I’m at work.”
Nicholas Angel: “I know… I’m outside.”
• Nicholas Angel: “Jeanine, I’ve been transferred I’m moving away for a while.”
Jeanine: “I know, Bob told me.”
Nicholas Angel: “Well, I wanted to tell you in person. There is no reason that we can’t be civil with eachother. It’s not that long ago we talked about getting married.”
Jeanine: “Yes, but you were already married to the force, weren’t you.”
• Jeanine: “Actually there is something I need to tell you.”
Nicholas Angel: “You’re seeing someone else.”
Jeanine: “Yes… how did you know?”
Nicholas Angel: “Is it Bob?”
Jeanine: “No! Does Bob look like the kind of person I would go out with? It’s Dave.”
Nicholas Angel: “I see.”
